I'm Seattle blogger Lana Kiossovski. I'm the youngest of four children and the only daughter of conservative and devoutly religious parents of Slavic descent hailing from the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. (I'm half Croatian, half Slovakian, and 100% American). I was a rebellious, wild child of the 80s and lived life to the fullest in the era of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll (haha); you would have too if you'd grown up in my family.
With a college degree in hand and suffocated by small-town living, I relocated to Seattle to start a new career and bear witness to the grunge-scene explosion. I met the musician, bartender, and nightclub manager who would become my husband at the Off Ramp Cafe. It was a smoke-filled dive bar with live music—an institution in its own right that helped launch the phenomenal careers of grunge bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam.
We eventually moved to the suburbs (the joke's on me), where we raised our two beautiful daughters while maintaining our separate career paths: me in the healthcare industry and him in the bar industry. My husband went on to bartend and manage another Seattle music institution called the Crocodile Cafe. Eventually, he partnered with other musicians, toured the world with his band, and went on to open two excellent Seattle bars.
As our daughters grew up and our nest became empty, I was drawn to animal rescue. For someone who adores animals—particularly dogs with medical issues—this was a natural progression. Soon, I'd become a "foster failure," and my home was brimming with love from four adorable fur-babies. I decided it would be best to pick up a different hobby. As an avid traveler, explorer, risk-taker, music lover, cook, and cocktail connoisseur, it seemed natural to take those interests to pen and paper, and blogging became the logical choice.
So here we are!
I believe you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to thrive in today’s world; your personality, your sense of humor, and most importantly, your heart. All of these elements brought me to start Lana Kiossovski Eat.Drink.Travel.
